Hints for Students: Report Writing, etc.

This page contains some documents containing guidelines for students for report writing, oral presentations and software documentation. They are quite simple and certainly do not have the pretension to replace professional books and courses in this field. Nevertheless, perhaps you find it interesting to use them or recommend them to your students.

If you like any of these documents and would like to be kept up-to-date of any new versions, please send me a short email message with appropriate contents such that I can put you on a mailing list. New versions appear approximately once a year and contain minor modifications with respect to an earlier version.

Searching for literature: Hints for Literature Research.
A nice little book in English: Anderson, J. and M. Poole, "Assignment and Thesis Writing, 4th Edition", John Wiley and Sons Australia, Brisbane.
Classical book on writing: Strunk, William. 1918. The Elements of Style, available on-line and as a commercial paperback.
Software: there exist software programs that help you to structure your ideas; the freely available Freemind is an example of such software. A "mind map" created by such a program may be the first step for writing a well-structured report or giving a well-structured presentation.
